The Iconic Old Guard Shack at Disney's Polynesian Village Resort: A New Beginning
The familiar sight of the old guard shack at Disney's Polynesian Village Resort has been replaced by a steel frame, signaling a major transformation for the resort's transportation hub. Once a bustling entrance, the area is now undergoing a dramatic makeover, with the old guard shack and its flowerbeds making way for a new bus depot.
A New Transportation Hub
The former guard shack and its flowerbeds have been completely demolished, leaving only a long patch of dirt. This change is part of a larger reconfiguration of the roadway entrance, which will now be a bus-only entrance. During the construction phase, buses and other vehicles are using the new Floridian Way entrance, where guests are dropped off at the porte cochere of the Great Ceremonial House.
A Framework for the Future
At the heart of this transformation is the installation of a new bus depot framework. The old depot has been demolished, and a sturdy steel frame now stands in its place. This frame features triangular pieces that will eventually form the roof of the new depot. While the roof is not yet in place, the structure is a clear indication of the upcoming changes.
Completing the Walkway
In addition to the bus depot framework, crews are busy finishing a sidewalk that connects the bus depot to the porte cochere. This pathway, which runs from the parking lot to the Great Ceremonial House, is almost complete, with more of the sidewalk paved and the surrounding land awaiting the addition of plants and greenery.
A Question of Resort Evolution
As Disney's Polynesian Village Resort undergoes these changes, it invites guests and enthusiasts to consider the evolution of its transportation and infrastructure. The demolition of the old guard shack and the construction of a new bus depot are significant updates that will impact the resort's overall experience. How do you feel about these changes?
